What Do I Need to Do for Complete Arm Care?

I often get asked, what all needs to be done to keep an arm healthy and strong for a baseball player. There are many things that can be done, but most get broken into two categories to train:

  1. Train movement
  2. Train the arm itself

The body has to move well in order to limit stress on the arm when you throw. If the arm is getting extra stress because your hips do not rotate, it is very hard for it to perform as well as it should and stay healthy from the extra load which could lead to a baseball injury. 

When you train the arm itself, you are teaching it to create tension overhead. This will help it stay strong and use muscles to stabilize the joints while it is being used in a high velocity movement, such as throwing overhead. Your ability to create tension and relax that tension at the right time will greatly improve your ability to throw well and stay healthy.
